Photoshoot as a yogic practice

September in China was rich in crazy fun photoshoots, like this one with amazing Zoe @BieJieBieJie. Photographers love to click a lot those days! I sometimes thought of it as a nuisance, a wasteful by-product of the digital over-information age. Now as i scrutinize all the subtle variation to select the “best” shots, i find value in observing the minute details and angle variations in my body shape (and possibly my partner’s). So back to the yoga of self-study / svadyaya, and patient self-love … not to be confused hopefully with narcissism :P but using photos as tools to reflect & experiment which shape produces a more stable / fun / challenging / esthetic / relaxing.. effect. My main fields of study right now are: shoulder opening (in last years a huge progress and a revolutionary inner feeling, and yet as the photo shows there is still room for more angle & extension!), the effects of toe pointing (as @jasonnemer’s goading still echoes) especially during press-ups, and search for spaces of relaxation in the straight body extension. Thanks for reading, the practice of hardstanding is so rich i could keep filling pages! So, enough said, back to practicing, disconnecting the mind, feeling.

Ac'Roll-Ups

Roll-ups are an interesting challenge for almost anyone, with lots of balancing, dialogue, negotiation, tuning-up, messing-up,... laughing-out!

Prepping it for workshops with fellow monkey Manja Köstel was tons of fun.. we couldn't find a video so me made one, enjoy, try it, spot it, find variations... come roll with us! (Leipzig workshop 25-June)

First (acro)Tango in Hong Kong

Marc discovers Hong Kong, as Rhiann discovers AcroYoga, here is the result!  .. and what is better than a little tango to reflect the HK glamour?
(unfortunately because of music copyright issues, it is only visible on desktop)

The Vegemite Roll (forth... and back!)

the birth of a washing machine... we were playing with Head to Hands and flowed into what really is a "heady" version of a high Kathrin's Wheel... and since it was in Oz surrounded by Perthians, co-created with fearless flyer Victoria "Tori" McLarty.. it was named the Vegemite Roll,.. time will tell if it sticks,.. yum yum...

oh and the end is more like a dreamed "Rewind" version, we have yet to try it,
please share any attempt!

One night i had this vision of a rotating Floating Pashi which i couldn't get out of my mind ~`~
Then one day it became reality with Tori Victoria Mclarty embodying the flying mantras "squeeze and trust" & "keep your shape" & the less well known "subtly and silently micro-adjust"...
Play with it, step by step, no rush, use a spotter if any doubt.. and let us know how it goes!
Oh and try the reverse, it might become the sequel to this video
Special thanks to Emily Williams for patiently filming us, at the risk of being roasted alive by the NT sun!

acrologo

Acroyoga has a new logo!

Now before explaining.. which one do you prefer?
vintage

modern

I was a bit surprised, at first, it feels colder than the old one... doesn't it?  maybe because i got used to the now vintage logo, it feels cosy and familiar.  But looking at the new one a bit longer i can see a perplexing mathematical beauty emerging, sort of like a Möbius strip.

Of course the realm of the mathematical is approaching the spiritual.  And as our wise leaders have thought thoughtfully about it, don't expect anything less than sacred geometry.. of a new kind, specially designed to summarize the philosophy of Acroyoga (dot org;-).
In their own words:
The new logo has arrived! It was co-created by Jason, Jenny, Izzy Van Hall (TT7) and graphic designer Amir Magal. It took about nine months to give birth to this image and we are very happy with it and wanted to share with you its meaning and symbolism.
Triangle Infinity Sign:
This is to symbolize the trinity of the practice in its many forms. There is healing in yoga and acrobatics, there is acrobatics in yoga and healing and there is yoga in acrobatics and healing, they are all part of the same practice and they bring the world together through divine play.
  • Acrobatics/Healing Arts/Yoga
  • Base/Flyer/Spotter
  • Sun/Moon/Union
Colors of the Triangle Infinity Sign:
  • Orange - the solar, yang dynamic component of Acrobatics
  • Blue - the lunar, yin healing component of Healing Arts
  • Purple - balance of solar and lunar, the unifying aspects of Yoga
Outer Circle:
  • the nature of the circle that is open and inclusive and everyone is equal
  • the community that holds the practice
  • the ever expanding and evolving nature of the practice
  • that we as the community will always be in motion and evolution together

~~~
Now look again at the logo again.. quite gorgeous, hey? :P
Only regret if there must be one, the groovy old font:  but it stays in my heart.
Yoga du Contact
(english version)
J'ai récemment redécouvert un texte de mon premier maître de yoga, Ken Scott Nateshvar, fondateur du "Contact Yoga" et grand inspirateur de l'AcroYoga, qu'il pratiquait de manière très libre et libératrice, sans nom de poses ou code physique, plus proche de la danse contact que de l'acrobatie.  Il avait une approche à la fois intuitive et spirituelle du contact. Les sensations et atmosphères préfiguraient le Tulayoga même si lui et Louka ne se connaissent pas.  Tesh, comme on l'appelait, est maintenant en mode ermite dans ses majestueuses montagnes canadienne, laissant le soin à d'autres de passer la flamme et de jouer avec le yoga du contact.
J'avais présenté la version originale anglaise dans un précedent billet ; voici enfin ma traduction française :
Principes du Yoga du Contact (Contact Yoga)
• On recueille ce qu’on apporte au point de contact.
L’émanation de chaque instant part de notre point d’intention, point d’intérêt, point de croyance. Utilisez le contact pour voir ce que vous apportez à ce point. Si votre expérience est merveilleuse, réfléchissez à ce que vous avez contribué qui l’a rendue ainsi. Si votre expérience est inconfortable, réfléchissez à quelle interprétation, croyance, ou cadre de pensée vous avez apportez à l’expérience qui l’a rendue ainsi.
• Quand deux devient un, l’un devient entier, et l’entier devient divin.
Le contact est une opportunité pour balayer tout ce qui nous sépare de la source. Quand nous permettons à l’autre d’être le miroir par lequel nous pouvons voir ce que nous apportons au point de contact, alors nous allons au delà de nos actions et réactions habituelles. Le mental s’apaise. En même temps que le conflit intérieur se guérit, nous devenons entiers. Le monde extérieur reflète cet état intérieur. Nous reprenons conscience de nous-même et des autres, comme étant les aspects d’une même source. À travers l’autre nous recevons l’opportunité de manifester pleinement les principes d’équilibre, d’harmonie, de beauté dans notre vie. Nous touchons au divin.
• Ce qu’on donne on le reçoit, ce qu’on reçoit on le donne.
La nature de votre expérience en yoga du contact dépend de votre intention ; à quel point êtes vous disponible et disposé à toucher et à être touché, non seulement au niveau du corps physique, mais aussi aux niveaux plus subtil du corps mental, du corps émotionnel, du corps énergétique. La profondeur de votre “être-touché” égale votre qualité de toucher. Plus profondément nous recevons et percevons les leçons nécessaires au processus de guérison du yoga, plus nous sommes capables de nous apporter cette profondeur les uns autres.
• Quand nous lâchons prise, la force de vie s’éveille. Faisons confiance.
Le prana est l’énergie cosmique, la force de vie - l’énergie qui infuse et guide l’univers et notre corps. La sagesse du prana est de loin supérieure à toute connaissance que nous possédons aujourd’hui. Le yoga du contact libère des tensions profondément ancrées dans notre corps physique et émotionnel et permet ainsi de guérir les conflits intérieurs. Quand ce prana est libéré, il devient plus fort et naturellement nous fait évoluer spirituellement, exactement dans la bonne direction - en dissolvant les obstacles et en nous montrant ce que nous devons découvrir en chemin. Ayez confiance que cette énergie consciente vous porte dans la direction où vous devez aller.
Traduit de l’anglais par Marc Bauchet (2011), à partir du “Contact Yoga Teacher Training Manual” de Ken Nateshvar Scott (2004).
Contact Yoga
(version française)
Contact Yoga, as Ken Scott Nateshvar called it, was a precursor to AcroYoga.  Tesh as we would call him was a most inspiring figure to me, as well as to AcroYoga founders.  I was lucky to meet his teachings in 1999 in Boston, then him personally at a workshop he gave in New York in 200, take his teacher trainings back in 2003 and 2004, just before he retired.  The quality of his touch and presence was shining directly from his heart and it's still a mystery to me how he could teach a class with a direct connection to people's true essence.  Yes there was partner yoga, flying acrobatics, leg loving thai massage and something like therapeutic flying, but mostly it was a dance of energies, a sort of healing contact improv of the heart.  He had also written principles, which were in the teacher training manual.  Luckily someone transcribed them here in original English (and my French translation here).
This post is to pay tribute to him and his teaching, alive in AcroYoga, but also in Tulayoga which i was amazed at how it manifests Tesh's principles, although it came independently. Where great minds .. and hearts, meet.
Breema
English (français ci-dessous)
During a recent workshop she gave in Paris my dear colleague Dieke of Holland refreshed my memory on Breema, a surprisingly deep bodywork, a californian synthesis of mysterious origins, which quiet power influenced therapeutic AcroYoga. Here are the Nine Principles of Harmony, useful beyond bodywork...
français
Au cours d'un atelier qu'elle a donné récemment à Paris, ma chère consoeur Dieke de Hollande a rafraichi ma mémoire sur le Breema, un travail thérapeutique surprenant, une synthèse californienne à l'origine mystérieuse, dont la calme puissance a influencé l'AcroYoga et dont les principes peuvent servir à tous ..
Les neufs principes d’harmonie du Breema
Les neufs principes d’harmonie font du Breema un travail corporel unique. Ils le distinguent des autres méthodes, même celles comme le massage thaï dont les mouvements paraissent similaires. Cependant les principes du Breema ont une portée universelle. Ils peuvent être appliqués à d’autres techniques ou méthodes de soin corporel, d’amélioration ou de maintien de la santé, et en fait à toute activité de la vie. Vous pouvez, à votre manière, appliquer les principes qui vous parlent plus particulièrement. Si vous êtes inspiré par ces principes, vous bénéficierez de prendre part à un atelier ou stage, car à la fois pratiquer et recevoir le Breema aident particulièrement à approfondir la compréhension du Soi.
Corps confortable
Quand on voit le corps, non comme une entité séparée, mais comme un aspect d’un tout unifié, alors il n’y a plus de place pour l’inconfort.
Pas de superflu
Pour exprimer notre nature véritable, rien de superflu n’est nécessaire.
Fermeté et douceur
La vrai fermeté est toujours douce. La vrai douceur est toujours ferme. Quand nous sommes présents, nous exprimons simultanément fermeté et douceur.
Entière participation
La manière la plus naturelle de bouger et vivre est avec entière participation. L’entière participation est possible quand le corps, le mental et les émotions sont unis dans un but commun.
Soutien mutuel
Plus notre Être participe, plus nous pouvons soutenir la vie et reconnaitre que l’Existence nous soutient. Donner et recevoir du soutien ont lieu simultanément.
Pas de jugement
L’ambiance de non-jugement nous fait gouter à l’acceptation de nous-même, tels que nous sommes dans l’instant. Quand nous venons pleinement dans l’instant, nous nous libérons de tout jugement.
Un instant / Une action Chaque instant est nouveau, frais, totalement vivant. Chaque instant est une expression de notre nature véritable, complète en soi.
Ni hâte / Ni pause
Dans le rythme naturel de l’énergie de vie, il n’y a ni hâte, ni pause.
Pas en force
Quand nous relâchons toute idée de séparation, nous ne forçons plus.
